Mumford & Sons and better blogging

I have to admit something. I haven’t exactly been the best blogger in the last few months (or the best music fan, really). My whole “thing” when we started the blog was to write about music. But I didn’t want to just throw up a random song and say “enjoy!” I wanted to write something thoughtful and meaningful about each of the songs; almost a story.

For awhile, I managed to do that. I also blogged about other things which I found interesting and compelling, including music, but it wasn’t with the same passion.

I’m not really one for resolutions, because they’re just meant to be broken, but I am going to try my hardest to start writing more, especially about music.

I guess I’ll start today!

The great thing about the end of the year is that all the blogs compiled their “best of” lists, and I get to listen to what I’ve missed. Which includes London band Mumford & Sons.

One song in particular has given me goosebumps and cut me deep. White Blank Page from their album Sigh No More is a rolling, emotional powerhouse.

Singer Marcus Mumford’s voice starts plaintive, cracking slightly over the lyrics “Can you lie next to her and give her your heart, your heart?” It’s a simple start, with just a guitar strumming in the background. And then it hits you, and gets a little more frantic, Mumford’s tone becoming more fierce, the rest of the band joining in, rising up and then coming down once again.
